how does one check the expiry date?? 

If you're using Chrome, go to Settings, Show advanced settings, HTTPS/SSL, and click the "Manage certificates" button.  You'll get a pop-up showing your certificate and the third column is the expiry date

we got ours last year (I think?) and it the chrome setting thing definitely says 2019 ...
