Funny, we thought they were floaters.  A sort of warning not to go to those beaches.  Perhaps we were wrong?

I nearly had an accident three times on the motorway while figuring out ... I think ... that they're pilot whales!

They're bound to cause accidents. I've heard concern expressed in this country that roadside shrines distract drivers and cause accidents and that's only a couple of bunches of flowers!

[countdown=01,06,2021,13,30][/countdown] until I return to Tenerife!

Floaters? Lumps of poo?

I think your'e right.

Pilot Whales? Nah, they could take really nice photos of pilot whales.

I've seen one!! There is one when your going to La Laguna on the TF what every it is from Santa Cruz. I have to admit they are an improvement on the French equivalent. They are much the same size but a drawing, brown on white, as opposed to the photos used here.

I've not heard any more about this issue, and some signs seem to have improved and others been replaced, but one in particular has never altered, and every time I've gone past I think to myself "next time ... ". The culprit in question is at the Los Cristianos junction of the TF1. Bear in mind that these are aimed at tourists who don't know the island ... and now look at the photo below. Right next to, or opposite to, depending on direction, a little mountain is a picture road sign for the junction for El Teide which I took while stuck in traffic there yesterday afternoon. It even has a picture of El Teide on it, but the perspective means that the difference in scale suggests that the little mountain to the side of the motorway is, in fact, the El Teide in the photo. Surely to goodness they can find a better image, or a better place for the road sign?

Never noticed that but I will look when I go past on Monday.

I can just imagine the disillusioned tourists in their hire cars or transfer taxis going "Is that it????  Is that what all the bluddy fuss is about?  I'm not botherin' with that, I've seen better peaks on ya' muther's meringue"

You are being very over critical. The impression tourists first get on the way to the resorts from the airport, is one of Awful out dated industrial buildings, roadside builders rubble, dust and desolation. Most airports in the world, even third world countries, look after the route from the airport (except New York). The sign you are talking about is probably the first prettiest thing they see. Next time you drive the route Just look at it as though you are a first time tourist.

Janet

yeah yeah it's very pretty ... it just makes it seem like the little hillock is Teide, which they were planning to climb ..... and to need a cable car and suffer altitude sickness for ... ::) :D

But yes, the route in from the airport is a total disgrace. :iagree:

Bear in mind that many visitors to Tenerife don't even know what country they're in. And even if they know Tenerife is in Spain they'd probably point to the Balearics if asked to pick it out on a map.

When I was little, pre-school, we were always getting in the car and "going to Northwich", so from a very young age I associated "Northwich" with the huge cylindrical gasometer that then dominated the main road past Northwich town centre and which was unavoidable if you were going "through Northwich". So I, as a little girl, thought that Northwich was the gasometer, leading to interminable disappointment every time I was promised we were going to Northwich because every time I got excited thinking we were going to climb the gasometer and we never did. My parents couldn't figure out why I'd get so upset when we got home after a shopping trip crying "but you said we were going to Northwich!!"

So I think it's totally to be expected that some visitors will think that little hill is Teide  :D
