Guía de Isora's Pascua Florida: a unique and increasingly famous Easter floral festival

Every Easter all eyes are on Adeje for its passion play, but Guía de Isora is to my mind the municipality with the most stunning Easter programme. 'The annual Pascua Florida sees the town's streets filled with floral displays evoking the stations of the cross, as can be seen from last year in the above video. In the old town centre itself, the plazas and pretty cobbled streets are strewn with floral displays, a beautiful and moving visual representation of Christ's journey through Jerusalem to the place of his crucifixion and death.

This year, the seventh for the Pascua Florida, the displays will be on view between 2 and 5 April in the casco, the oldest central part of Guía de Isora town. The Ayuntamiento says that this Easter floral tribute is unique in Spain, and certainly in thematic and artistic terms, Guía de Isora's Pascua Florida is becoming almost as well known in Spain as Adeje's Pasión.

On Good Friday, 3 April itself, there will be a photographic competition for the first time. The central theme will be the Pascua Florida displays and there will be prizes of €300, €200 and €100 for the best three entries: for those who wish to take part, there is more information HERE (see my website). Whatever your reason for going, however, the Pascua Florida is certainly worth seeing over Easter. JA
