The little Infanta Leonor auditorium in Los Cristianos is a gem of a building for music. While the Magma Centre is stunning architecturally, the acoustics are, well, appalling, not to put too fine a point on it! The Los Cristianos auditorium however, is far more muted in terms of design – though still very pleasing in modern architectural terms, but is specifically designed for acoustic excellence. As a result, they are getting some seriously good concert pianists performing there.

The Boxing Day concert saw a stunning virtuoso performance by Hungarian Krisztina Fejes, and this month, Russian concert pianist, musicologist and composer Valerij Petasch will be giving a concert on Saturday 24th at 8.30pm. Alhough the programme is still to be confirmed, it will certainly include works from the composers which Petasch is most known for, namely Chopin, Schubert, Brahms, Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Liszt, Debussy, Ravel, Tchaikovsky, Glinka, and of course, the works which Petasch composed himself.

Tickets are €10, and as usual are available Monday to Friday between 9am and 2pm from the Cultural Centre in Los Cristianos, or two hours beforehand at the auditorium itself. JA
