Hiker dies in Punta de Hidalgo barranco fall

A 65-year-old German walker died just after 2pm this afternoon after being critically injured in a fall in Barranco Seco in the Punta de Hidalgo area of north Tenerife. Although a search and rescue helicopter was despatched to the scene by emergency services, the paramedics found they could not do anything to save his life, and declared him dead at the scene. The poor man was part of a walking group and one of the GES rescuers stayed with the rest of the group to bring them to safety. JA
