Supermoon this eavening . . . .

Myrtle Hogan-Lance

Was it this morning or is it still to come tonight?  I was gazing at it about 5.30 this morning and the glow it cast on the ocean.  It was stunning.

We watched it rise last evening ... it looked very large and glowed very intensely. It also looked very "full". I suppose 24 hours doesn't make much difference. Looking forward to seeing it tonight as well!

Sod's law dictates that when I go out to look for meteorites I see nothing.

Yet tonight, I saw 2, during 2 successive smoke breaks.

And one appeared to break up. A long streak followed by sparks.

Beautiful.

Just a reminder of the Leonids, best between midnight and dawn. There's a waning crescent moon, but it shouldn't interfere too much. Peak is tomorrow night, but tonight and is the start of them. JA

Oh great - pity there is thick low cloud and it's pissing with rain  :great:

Just a reminder that the Geminids meteor shower is due this weekend, on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14. Astronomers say that the last quarter moon will interfere somewhat, but that the display is one of the most prolific and reliable throughout the year, and that the meteors are particularly bright. Best time is around midnight, but watch from around 9pm and throughout the night.
