A major incident of two crashes on the TF1 this morning resulted in a man's death, and the south-bound carriageway brought totally to a standstill for over an hour. The first accident, involving a car and a lorry, happened just before 6am near Abades, and paramedics and bomberos had to force their way to the incident through the traffic tailbacked to Poris de Abona. The car driver, however, was already dead with severe head injuries and there was nothing that could have been done to help him, with his VW Beetle crushed under the rear of the lorry. There are no details about the victim, but a second man said to be 59 years old was injured shortly after in another crash in the tailback. He was transferred by ambulance to Hospiten Sur with slight back injuries. JA

There are still no actual details of the driver who died in yesterday morning's accident but one detail of the vehicle has become clear - it was stolen. Police have confirmed that they received a denuncia early yesterday morning from a Barranco Grande couple reporting the theft of their car. They were hardly back through the door when police were calling to say their vehicle had been found - crushed under a lorry with the driver dead inside.
