A 26-year-old man was hurt this lunchtime at Playa de Jardín, Puerto de La Cruz, when he and a companion were knocked into the sea by a high wave. The incident happened at 12.33pm, and though he himself was taken to the town's Hospitén Bellevue with minor injuries, his companion remains missing and a search is underway. Involved in the incident are a GES Gobcan search and rescue helicopter and lifeboat, Policía Local, national police, Playa Jardín lifeguards, and the Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC) with ambulance. In the initial seasrch, a fireman and lifeguard themselves needed to be rescued. The sea is going to get wilder over the next week in Tenerife. Please take extreme care. JA

I've witnessed myself the risks some people take there when the sea is rough. Utter madness.  ::)
[countdown=01,06,2021,13,30][/countdown] until I return to Tenerife!

I'm stuck in Vera de Erques. Is that care extreme enough, or should I walk up the road a bit?  :017:

A good lifejacket should be enough

Sadly, emergency services have confirmed that they have recovered the body of the missing bather at Playa de Jardín.

A sad update about the drowning in Puerto de la Cruz yesterday from the Guardia Civil, who confirm that the two men were at the coast to scatter the ashes of a family member. The 26-year-old managed to get out of the water by himself, but his 32-year-old friend could not, and his body was recovered shortly after 8pm. JA
