What an attractive building the Magma centre is. It is a fantastic location for art and photography exhibitions.

Apparently Earth, Wind and Fire are playing there next month.
I love Earth, Wind and Fire. I was unusual amongst my friends in the 70's for loving Earth, Wind and Fire - I was mocked. They have made consistently brilliant records for four decades. And I still think they are brilliant. I'd really really love to see them, even if they are getting on a bit and only a few of the original  members are left. They have such an impressive reprtoire of compositions which, like them or not, was part of the soundtrack of your life.

However
You just cannot listen to music in that building. The building is not designed for it. That building is anti-music. The acoustics are so bad that musicians who play there get angry. They get angry because they have never played anywhere before that has made them sound so bad. So you get the double effect of bad acoustics with the music echoing around the hall as if it were a tin can and the musicians playing angrily because it sounds crap.
You will think I am exaggerating unless you have experienced it. It is PAINFULLY bad.

So everybody is ripped off. The musicians, the audience, the promoter and the island are all ripped off.

This is a great shame for Tenerife because an emblematic concert hall would be wonderful asset to the south of the island.

OK - Use it for photography exhibitions – yes. But if you put music on there . . . . everybody loses. It does nothing but damage to the reputation of everybody involved and to the image of the island.

I have seen some greats perform on this fair island – Miles Davis (twice), Michael Jackson, James Brown, BB King, Chuck Berry, Desmond Decker, Jamiroquai, The Wailers (The real ones sans Bob) Chrissie Hynde's  Pretenders . . . to name a just a few and not to mention the flamenco and latin stuff.

But I will not go to see Earth, Wind and Fire . . . . it would just make me angry and I would probably cry with frustration and embarrassment

I agree ... though tonight even the Magma couldn't ruin Brian May. But the rest of it? The bass was wrong in the hall though fine if you were at the top of the seats going up the side of the stage (where the press was so I could check it out), and the singer ... there was either something wrong with his mic or the accoustics are really appalling in the vocal range!

But Brian May was stunning ...

I would love to see Earth Wind & Fire.  Loved them too though they were quite popular in the USA.

Yesterday in the car an advert for the concert came on and I was reminded of this thread.  I decided to go to the website to check the price of tickets.  And do you know what?  magmatenerife.com redirects to magmatenerife.es, which is a parked domain.  That's right, in their brilliance they have let their web site lapse.

(Sorry Penkles, still not big enough for a rant.)

Is that a joke?
The architect should be tied to a seat for the duration as a punishment.
