A 73-year-old British man died this afternoon after falling while walking in the Barranco de Azuaje, in the Gran Canaria municipality of Moya. Emergency services were called out shortly before 3pm and due to the difficulty of access in the area a helicopter was despatched.

When they located the man, one of the rescuers was lowered to the site, immobilized him on a stretcher, and flew him to a local football ground where the helicopter could land. Sadly, however, paramedics could not do anything to save his life and he was declared dead at the scene.

This is the second British person to die while walking in Gran Canaria today. As I've posted on the heatwave thread, a party of seven was so affected by the high temperatures that one died and two are in critical condition tonight.
