The regional director general for public health José Díaz-Flores Estévez and Adeje mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga have presented a pilot sexual health project which includes a sexual information service and rapid HIV tests for Adeje. The service  is intended among other things to improve sexual health awareness and reduce unwanted pregnancies and HIV, and will be available in Adeje's health promotion department in the Centre for Tourism Development Costa Adeje (CDTCA). HIV tests will be done free of charge by prior appointment on Mondays and Thursdays - results will be given within twenty minutes. If anyone feels they need to make an appointment, they just need to call 922 756 257 or 922 756 244. There is a map on the link below showing how to get to the centre.

Mayor Fraga said that the new service will offer HIV tests carried out by trained personnel and in total confidentiality; above all, said Sr Fraga, it should help those who either do not feel able to talk to their GP, or who aren't registered with one in the first place. There will also be staff available to help people who have little or no Spanish. The mayor said the Ayuntamiento was already working with a sex education programme through local schools and which was designed to give young people the knowledge they needed to develop their own sexuality independently and without risks. "We worry about the health of our citizens", he said, "and we have felt it necessary to promote an educational campaign which will promote a healthier safer life for all. That's why we are creating this Sex Information Point which will help people with their sexual orientation as well as the creation of a HIV testing centre that is discreet, with personalised attention and quick results".
