A general strike in the education sector has been called throughout Spain for next Thursday, 24 October. As yet, there has not been any official pronouncement from the education authorities here about whether children should stay at home. There has been some confusion over the date of the strike because a "students' strike" has also been called for Tuesday and Wednesday, 22 and 23 October; this has led to some thinking that the teaching strike is for the three days, but the actual strike concerning schools and universities is for the 24th alone. As always, it is possible that the strike will be called off last minute, or that schools will open - even if only partially - in any case, and schools are anyway obliged to provide some basic cover. I'll update if there is any further announcement. JA

This is offtopic I know but it feels right to put it here ... education connections, and absolute chaotic organization leading to disaster ...

I don't suppose anybody knows or cares about why they are striking? Does it matter?

Re: the student's strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, 22 and 23 October.

The Students' Union are calling it a three day strike. LINK
It seems to be mainly about grants and they are stressing the point that it is the pupils striking, not the teachers.
However,
I know one girl in the Los Cristianos school who has been told by one teacher that if they go to school on those days he will set them exams.

Ha! As if that sort of encouragement would break their political resolve!

Re Janet's link about the students being unable to sit the exam due to roads being closed for a half marathon:  The usual ultra-efficient Spanish organisation.

Remember this summer when the observatory had open days on the weekend and the Guardia Civil closed off access from the south so Poker and his son couldn't reach it?  The usual ultra-efficient Spanish organisation.
