x5 ... that's the multiplier I think Canarians apply when working out how much to fleece someone by.

There's a restaurant in our village for sale - because trade is moribund - and I was asked to help spread the word to increase the chance of a buyer. How much, I asked, expecting a sum of in the region of 600,000 maximum for the whole business, building, kitchens, supplies, land, the lot - but given that there is no custom right now! Three million, came the reply.

Now, our neighbour, Jacinto, he of the stutter and the beer habit, has just put the word out that we're in the market for some firewood - we're always in the market for some firewood! I have some, said the man who sells us free range eggs, I'll come and show it to you on Saturday. Yesterday (Sunday) he turned up. Pallets, they are, not logs, not beams, just pallets. And none too bloody good pallets either. Got to be a couple of Euros maximum, we thought. How much, we said. Ten Euros, he said.

He took two euros per pallet, grudgingly. And we're still laughing, bemused ...

As I said, x5 ...

I was so surprised by the respose of millions, I naively asked "Euros or pesetos?" That didn't go down very well.  :cheesy:

Before anyone points out that we could probably pick them up free in Las Chafiras, we don't have a lorry to do it. I was totally baffled by the process of haggling. He started off at €10, then €5 then €3. At which point I said that looking at 4 pallets, they might be worth €10. He didn't like that, so we settled for €2 per pallet.  :017: :-[ :cheesy:

poker

They ask so mutch nobody is interested anymore even in hageling .
At the end it just turns up standing empty like half of the island and Spain.
Like Perikeles mensions even in pesetas it would be to mutch .

They should make a tax on property standing empty and deteriorating like in Belgium , only then the real prices would be quickly known .
