... of course, some roads leading off above the Santiago-Adeje road aren't to "wooded" areas ... and it's only in wooded areas on those roads that traffic is banned ...

So you can just hop the car between non-wooded areas  :D
If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know amazing.

The Cabildo has clarified its earlier statement. All activities in the mountains are banned and recreational areas are out of bounds as of 7pm this evening BUT the Teide access roads themselves are not closed. The Cabildo asks the public to take the utmost caution.

Our friends made it up without problems, and we celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary happily.  Still remains to be seen if we can walk the dogs as usual tomorrow.

Yesterday was horrible. There were fires in the Teide national park, on La Gomera and in La Palma. Mercifully the Teide fire is now extinguished, the La Palma one under control, and the La Gomera one stabilized – confirmed at 8am this morning as still not under control. It appears now that although the La Palma and Tenerife fires were caused by carelessness, the La Gomera blaze was arson – and bad enough that the water plane has now seen its first deployment in anger.

The authorities are literally begging people to take extreme care, but of  course with arson there is no such appeal that can be made. The forecast for the weekend is for high winds. This will bring cooler weather for a few days, but with the islands as dry and brittle as a tinder box, the winds are a disaster in the making. Take extra care, people, and don't be afraid to call 112 if you see any smoke in the hills. JA

We were able to walk up the mountain as usual today.  No signs or barriers.
