The Tenerife Cabildo has issued a ban from today on fires at altitude while the current heatwave lasts, and certainly over this weekend. The ban is in place for medianías – areas between 600 and 1,500m altitude – and forested areas, and prohibits fireworks and bonfires, BBQs, agricultural burning and the use of machinery which can produce sparks, and the Cabildo also asked the public to avoid forest areas generally. Tenerife is on yellow alert today for temperatures up to 34º, though many areas at mid-altitude will feel hotter than that.
