How do the buggers just know what a fly swat is? I was being plagued by two earlier, buzzing around my head, on my hands, but they evaporated the minute I picked the fly swat up! And this seems normal. They always disappear when it makes an appearance!  :017:

Then the solution would seem to be to wear it around your neck like a medallion.  ;)

Did all the sworms of flies blow into the sea with the winds we had these last few days or will they regroup and attack us again .
More on the news after the storms . .. . .

That's what I'm worried about.  We went to buy an electric fly zapper yesterday but they were sold out.  They are supposed to have more tomorrow.

The flies are driving me mad!!!  I can't stand fly swats though, they're filthy unhygienic things!  I tried putting a plug-in insect repellent near where they were buzzing but within seconds three of the bastards had landed on it!!!  I don't know what's brought them, but I hope they go away soon  :gonnagetit:

Just a thought but would they have anything to do with you guys being on an island full of bananas?

Didn't P tell you?  After your gliding us in it was a no-brainer.  Thanks again.

Can't see it, mac, because on that basis we'd have them most of them time and they'd be nearest to the plantations. It's not like that, though, and they're clearly worse at some times than others, and not seemingly related to the fertilising. Also, we have them up here a couple of times a year and it's always after rains, and not a plantation in sight. So for me, it has to be rain related.

In answer to whether the second rains would wash away the flies that appeared after the first downpour ..... nope. Swarms of the bloody things right now.  :flytong:  :gonnagetit:

I had so many flies in here this evening I couldn't get to the kitchen!!  They formed a funnel from the ceiling light to the worktop, which was fascinating, yet freaky.  An hour later they have all gone.  Why?  Have they burned themselves on the bulb or has my anti-mosqui plug-in driven them out?  Or is it just fly bed time?  :undecided:

Here's a photo where you can clearly see the flies around the light:
