A couple, said to be between 30 and 40 years of age and well dressed, carried out an armed attack on a rent-a-car agency in Playa de las Américas around 11am yesterday morning. After asking to speak to the owner, they threatened the staff with a revolver. Police say they don't know whether it was a real or fake gun, but the level of intimidation caused would be the same. The robbers got away with some €1,200 in cash, and although local and national police searched the area very quickly afterwards, the couple had made a successful getaway. As a result of the nature of the crime, the investigation will now be taken up by the Brigada de Policía Judicial.

The agency was in C/. Víctor Zurita Soler in Playa de las Américas, where the Barranco and Piramides complexes are. There was a spurt of these sorts of robberies back in 2011, so we must hope that this doesn't herald another such rash of attacks. I felt it was worth posting, however, so that these small agency owners and managers can just keep protection and safety at the forefront of their minds ... I imagine they do anyway, though, these days. Stay safe everyone. JA
