The Guardia Civil has arrested ten officers of the Canarian Police Force, including the two provincial police chiefs themselves. The arrests, which took place last week, are the result of an operation named operación Ladrillo (operation Brick), itself the result of charges of illegal detention, workplace bullying and falsification of documents. Seventeen police officers and a security officer are to be called as witnesses, and phones have been seized, but the case is sub judice: if more facts become available and I'm allowed to post them, I'll update as appropriate. Needless to say, the Policía Canaria say the operation is the result of political persecution against the region's own autonomous police force. JA

Who wants to bet that Rivero mentions the "Conquista"?

(The "conquista" was when the Canarians came here and conquered, annihilated and enslaved the previous indigenous population. It is now a term bandied around whenever the Canarians themselves feel victimised)
