We are currently experiencing a dense and horrible calima, and as is clear from five minutes outdoors right now, they bring exceptionally low humidity. This, together with the drought we've had for some time, now poses a clear fire risk, and today the Tenerife Cabildo has asked the public to take the utmost precautions while these conditions prevail. In particular, the Cabildo has asked the public to take extreme care throughout the weekend and the next several days in any activities undertaken in the medianĂa (mid-altitude) and the forest areas. The Cabildo has not banned the use of BBQs in forest recreational areas, but due to the elevated danger, has banned controlled agricultural and forestry fires, and fireworks, in the mountain areas until Monday 12 March.
