Loro Parque, which opened on 17 December 1972, is 40 years old today. HERE is just a selection of the stories I've posted about this wonderful place since I started my blog – not just a tourist attraction, but a world class environmental resource of the first order, and a specialist parrot centre whose breeding programme is saving species from extinction. It's a fantastic centre – HERE is its website – and I wish it a very happy birthday indeed, and with very many happy returns!

The first time we went to Loro Parque, we took the guided tour and I can thoroughly recommend it.

The things we were shown were truely amazing.

We saw where the gorillas sleep. They are played classical music to help them sleep (it has that effect on me as well) and they showed us what one animal eats in a day. Bloody hell, the buggers eat better than I do.  :giggle:

We stopped at an aquarium and the guide told us that there was a 'very famous fish' in the tank and asked if we could spot it. Every person there (all adult) pointed to the celebrity and shouted, 'Nemo!' Brilliant.

And underneath the penguinarium. Wow! A huge mass of pipes, pumps and gauges. Staggering. And it is spotless. You could eat your dinner off the floor.

I love Loro Parque.

Oh I love the penguins!  I took some fabulous photographs at Loro Parque.  Happy Birthday Loro!  :blowcandle:
