A teenager is critically ill in Candelaria hospital after coming off his skateboard in C/ Hibiscos in Los Gigantes at 9.30 this morning. Emergency services were called out with reports that the 15-year-old had received head injuries in the fall and paramedics established that his injuries were so life-threatening that they immobilized and stabilized him at the scene, and then transferred him to the north by helicopter. I hope this youngster is OK, but we see skateboarders on the main hill up to our village coming down at what must be 50km/h with no protection of any sort on their limbs or heads. I don't know what could be done to protect them, but something needs to happen before one of them loses their life. JA

..........and I bet no insurance. I met some these hurtling down the road once as I was coming up on my motorbike. Bloody dangerous.  :021:

My eldest son fell of a skate board when he was very young. In fact it was two days before we were due to fly out here for a holiday. His two front teeth went missing and his face was a bloody mess. We had him checked out and apart from the teeth his other injures were superficial. So we went on holiday.
On our return the dental treatment started. Two years later and he was still having problems. After changing dentist twice we paid to have them fixed privately. It cost an arm and a leg. Since then he has constantly had problems. He's now 37 and has just had to pay a further 6700€ to have them replaced again, and no doubt will have to do the same a number of times again in the future. I would hazard a guess that we have paid over the years 18,000€ not including NHS treatment.
The skate board survived intact.
