Last night's gala ceremony at the Abama Hotel saw a veritable who's who of Spanish and Portuguese gastronomy gather for the announcements of the Michelin starred restaurants to be included in the latest guide. And there are five in Tenerife, two of them in the Abama Hotel itself.  The five are:

Restaurante NUB, La Laguna, 1 star
M.B., Guía de Isora, 2 stars
Kabuki, Guía de Isora, 1 star
El Rincón de Juan Carlos, Los Gigantes, 1 star
Kazan, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1 star

Most of these restaurants were celebrating their reinclusion in the guide, but for NUB in La Laguna, it's a brand new award. The restaurant is in a quiet side street in the old part of town, just around the corner from the Teatro Leal and the Hotel Aguere: its website is HERE.

The M.B and Kabuki restaurants are both in the Abama Hotel, the first being an inspiration of Basque chef Martín Berasategui whose initials give the establishment its name, and the second offering Japanese fusion. Both are on the Abama website HERE.

Also Japanese is Kazan in Santa Cruz, reviewed by Andy Montgomery in the Real Tenerife blog HERE. And finally, El Rincón de Juan Carlos cements a glowing reputation with another listing for the ever popular restaurant in Los Gigantes: its own website is HERE.

The tourism authorities have long been promoting Tenerife as a gastronomic destination. These latest awards will do the island's foodie reputation no harm at all!
