One dead, one in police custody, after zodiac launch overturns in north Tenerife

One man is dead and another in police custody after a zodiac type craft overturned late last night in north Tenerife. Details of the incident are still confused but it seems that the accident happened around half past one in the morning off the north coast at Playa de Almáciga near the famous Benijo beach, whereas the craft washed up later against the breakwater of San Andrés just north of the capital. Both men are said to be in their 30s, and although it is currently not confirmed that illegal activity was taking place, the craft is of a type known as a narcopatera, an agile launch regularly used to transport illegal drugs to coast. The Guardia Civil is in charge of the operation.
