Firefighters who were called out in La Laguna this morning made a grim discovery after they had extinguished the fire. Emergency services say that bomberos were called out shortly before 11am with reports of the fire in an abandoned property in camino La RĂșa in the countryside on the outskirts of the city. Sadly, while examining the interior of the property, the body of a woman was found inside the one room that had been affected by the fire. The incident is being investigated by the National Police but at present the victim hasn't been identified: her body has been transferred to the judicial authorities for identification attempts and an autopsy.

Police say that they have arrested the partner of the woman found inside the burnt room of the abandoned property in La Laguna yesterday. The initial hypothesis is that after killing her, he left her body in a place where it was unlikely to be discovered and the room set on fire in an attempt to disguise her identity if she were in fact found. It was, however, the smoke which attracted attention to the act.
