There are wild seas even though there is no alert – please take extra care near the coast

For anyone visiting, there are no actual alerts in place for costeros in Tenerife but the seas are quite wild all the same. Yesterday, two people drowned and a third is being sought after being swept out of a natural rock pool in Puerto Santiago, and today, La Orotava Ayuntamiento has closed its beaches to the public because of high waves.

Please have a look at the official advice that I've summarised in English HERE for staying safe in the sea generally, and for costeros specifically at the moment, and take particular care in the waters here at all times of the year, but especially when the seas are like this. Here are two photos released by the police yesterday of conditions at the rock pool area where bathers were swept away: the second in particular shows the scale of the waves to the people on the rocks on the left quite clearly (click to expand).
