Although the very famous Ruta del Almendro en flor is in Santiago del Teide, the fact is that there are almond trees all over the island, especially in the medianías of the western hills. And now, Guía de Isora is offering a 10 km guided Ruta de los Almendros en Flor between Arguayo, Chío and the town of Guía de Isora. The walk, which is free and of "medium difficulty", is organized by the council's Local Development Agency and will take place on Saturday, 25 February, starting at 9am. My neighbour had 2 in his garden. He said that they were male and female and that if you didn't have both that you wouldn't get any almonds. Don't know how true it is.

It's true that for most almonds trees that they need to cross-pollinate (although some varieties don't). Almond flowers have both male and female parts, so all that needs to happen is that two trees are in flower at the same time. The bees do the rest.
