An anticrepuscular ray!

I've put in Tenerife chat, because this phenomenon is rare, but visible in Tenerife when conditions are right. I saw this this morning, and posted it on a science forum because I didn't know what it was. Now I do.

Great picture, but do we get an explanation?  Or are we just expected to google it ourselves?

LMGTFY: At sunrise, you get rays spreading out from the sun in a fan-shape. Rosy-fingered dawn (Homer). It turns out that these rays actually carry on and meet at the horizon 180 degrees away, where of course they converge. I didn´t know that, but it's predicted by Mie theory, which Janet knows nothing about. Live and learn.

(That was a sly reference to a translation I'm doing which mentions Mie theory. Janet was proofreading, and thought it was a typo  )
