Once might be accident. Twice, in the same place, within 24 hours? A fire has broken out in the hills of Arico where one was extinguished only yesterday morning by emergency services. It was being dealt with, indeed, when I was in the 112-Canarias hub myself, and emergency services are again fighting a blaze with land and air teams in a low pine forest area, the Cabildo says. At least it's not high summer when such a fire can take hold in minutes and cause widespread damage, but it's hard to avoid the conclusion that an arsonist is wreaking havoc for the emergency services right now. Only a very slight havoc in February, surely?

Slightly off topic. I am not sure how many smokers we have, or ex-smokers as I am. But those that are, how do you dispose of you cigarette ends? Do you stub them out with your foot, or in an ashtray either in the car or not. In short do you make sure they are extinguished before moving on? I always did, it would never cross my mind to do what seems to be normal here, and thats just to flick the butt away while still smoking. They do it in the street and from cars, some can expertly flick the butt meters away from themselves without a care in the world.

Cigarettes ends a major cause of fires!

one landed on my windscreen on the motorway yesterday, chucked out of the car in front without a care in the world.

(A year yesterday for me ....  :tiphat: )

It was 22 years since I quit on the 8th.  I think I used to try and make sure they were out.  I was always very acutely aware of the fire risk in the country.

I'm over 32 years smokeless and still recovering :great: It does get easier but you have to remain vigilant. There comes a point where it changes from will power against smoking to will power for pride in giving up!!
