Three men were injured around 8.20pm this evening in a head-on collision on the TF465, the road leading from near the Abama hotel up to Vera de Erques in Guía de Isora. One, 19 years old, received serious head injuries, and two others of 18 and 19 years of age were less badly hurt. Emergency services were alerted with reports of the head-on collison two kilometres up from the main Armeñime-Playa San Juan road, and three ambulances were despatched, one of them with emergency equipment. After the worst affected was stabilized at the scene, he was transferred to Candelaria hospital where he is said to be in critical condition. The other two were taken to the Quiron Costa Adeje with minor injuries. JA

For those who are unaware, that stretch of road is a bunch of hairpin turns, many of which you cannot see around.  Add a bit of excess speed and it would be no wonder someone would have a head-on collision.

It's a favourite for motorbikes. There are one or two nice little markers with bunches of flowers at corners where somebody didn't make it. There is also one mysterious one half way along the only straight stretch of the road where a mother replaces flowers regularly. Nobody knows how he managed to crash just there.

And on cue, an article about this famous road here

I confess it's a fabulous road for a motorbike, but I only drive up and down at times when the racers are not around. If they saw me, they would all fall off laughing at my pace, and that would be dangerous.

... and anyway, if you watch motor or motorbike racing on the box, you will hear that the commentators use the nouns "pace" and "speed" synonymously. "He was going at a hell of a pace" is applied to vehicles as well as pedestrians  :tiphat:
