A woman has been saved today at Playa de la Enramada in Adeje after suffering a cardiac arrest in the water shortly after lunchtime. Lifeguards at the beach called emergency services at 1.30pm with reports that the woman had been rescued from the sea after drowning and that they were carrying out resuscitation efforts. Paramedics took over when they arrived, and after she was resuscitated she was transferred to Candelaria hospital where she remains in critical condition.

This is the fifth incident this month - indeed in one week! Two of them, on 3 and 4 September, have been fatal (see HERE). I know I've said it before but clearly I can't say it too often. Cardiac arrest is a known symptom of cold water shock. Please read my page HERE for information on this. It is difficult to imagine at times that our waters are "cold", but in technical terms of cold water shock, Tenerife's seas are never not "cold". Please take the utmost care when swimming in the sea here. JA
