Adeje Guardia Civil are looking for thieves who broke through the rear door into Callao Salvaje's Hiperdino Express around 4am on Wednesday and got away with drinks and tobacco, as well as €5,000 from the safe. The robbery was discovered when staff arrived to open the shop at 7.30am, and the Guardia Civil were called. The investigating officers suspect that the thieves are the same who broke into the Adeje ITV station last weekend, on that occasion breaking in through a wall and managing to open the safe to get away with €6,000 stored on site. Unofficially, police say they think it could be a Romanian gang known to be operating in the area. JA

Just a thought:  if these businesses are keeping that kind of cash on the premises why don't they have a burglar alarm which alerts the police directly?

I'm against the use of time delays and other obstruction measures on safes.  Yes the time delay factor may be a deterrent or an obstacle too great for opportunist and casual thieves, but these days it seems that organised and armed criminals don't mind waiting for the bigger prize, holding staff hostage at gunpoint in the meantime.  Let's not forget the poor bank cashier in Tarragona who was shot in the head during an armed robbery when she wouldn't/couldn't hand over the cash and the robbers became anxious.  I'd much rather just hand over the cash and get the robbers out of my space as soon as possible, thank you very much.  Though that itself seems to be very much a British approach.  For some screwy reason the Spanish attitude seems to be more towards protecting the cash at all costs.  Bollocks to that
If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know amazing.
