The Canarian health department, Sanidad, has activated its Plan de Actuaciones Preventivas de los Efectos del Exceso de Temperaturas sobre la Salud, a preventative action plan to counter the effects of heat throughout the summer. The operation will be in action until 15 September. The plan specifies and coordinates regional, insular and local government measures where public health is at risk, and sets up the system of alerts.

Once again, the health department reminds the public that in the very hot weather the Canaries gets in summer months, the elderly, children and those with chronic illnesses are most at risk. The plan set in  motion today will see the entire health system, from government to health centres on notice to deal with the consequences of elevated temperatures. ON my website there's a page in the Useful Stuff tab on "staying safe in Tenerife heatwaves" (direct link HERE). JA
