Los Realejos man under arrest for beating his heavily pregnant Podenco to death

A 77-year-old Los Realejos man has been arrested by the Guardia Civil after being denounced for beating to death his heavily pregnant dog. A neighbour denounced the man and Garachico Servicio de Protección de la Naturaleza (Seprona) officers investigated, and found the Podenco bitch buried: she was no more than a few days away from giving birth and had been killed by blows to the head. Bloody hell, I hope somebody does that to him.  I have no words strong enough to describe a monster who would do that.

I did think about not posting it, but it's all over the Canarian press now, and the more outrage, maybe the more it'll be driven out as a behaviour type ...

Perhaps some blows to his head, although not sufficient to kill him just to beat him to within an inch of his life, may be the correct punishment for people like this. People like this give the human race a bad name.

The law should give carte blanche and legal immunity to the public to issue their own punishment in cases like this.  The baying mob of angry vigilantes has its place in society as long as there are people like this.  We'd soon make sure he never did it again.

Yes, so that the neighbour with a grudge can batter somebody's dog to death, then accuse the owner of doing it, and get everybody else to batter his enemy to death.

True, but a tad better than mob rule.

You probably meant that what is needed is a much stronger local awareness of what is going on, so that the opinion in the neighbourhood is an important consideration for behaviour.  People are less likely to do something disgraceful if they know that the neighbourhood will despise them for it. These days, nobody seems to care much about anything and just want to mind their own business.
