22 years for a failed theft. Are they insane?

This report is about some nut-case who entered the house of Bárcenas, threatened his servant, wife and son with a gun, tied them up and tried to steal something. The son managed to get loose, overpower him and call the police.

Now this must have been a nightmare for those involved. But 22 years clink? Nobody was even hurt. Isn't this totally disproportionate? Or was it because somebody "important" was indirectly involved?

I have no doubt that the aggrieved persons 'fame' came into play. But the fact the offender had a gun and apparently used it as a threat is of great concern. Also he committed the burglary not as a 'thief in the night' but confronted his victims in their own home putting them in obvious fear. Even in the UK that would attract a couple of extra days on the suspended sentence!

Sorry can't read all the article, my translator's in France! But if the Nutter has previous convictions? Coupled with the fact he will no doubt be paroled in a couple of years I think its not an overly tough sentence.

Anybody who broke in and threatened me with a gun would deserve life.   :violent-smiley-007:
