The Canarian Government has developed a "strategy against poverty and social exclusion". The programme will have an initial budget for 2013-2015 of €190,900,000 and will prioritize the 35,000 households in the islands without income. The document in which the programme is set out is now being sent to the Canarian Parliament. The Minister for Social Policy and Housing, Ines Rojas, said that the money was a special fund requested by the Government in coordination with other administrations in the Canaries, such as the Ayuntamientos represented in the Federación Canaria de Municipios. For the second half of this year, the budget will be €37,300,000, and in both 2014 and 2015, €76,800,000. It will be interesting to see the detail of how this money will be spent, and how it is intended to improve the situation of those worst off in the Canaries. JA
