Government health technicians carrying out routine checks have found raised levels of microrganisms which could be a public health hazard in Bahía del Duque. Adeje Ayuntamiento will be meeting later today to consider further analysis currently being undertaken, and will decide at that point whether to close the beach. The reason for the contamination is unknown at present. JA

Could this be sewerage from La Calleta?

Janet

yes, it could. They're hypothesizing for the moment, but they're thinking in terms of an accidental, or illegal, sewage leak from somewhere in the general area ...

Clio O'Flynn of Radio Sur Adeje has just spoken to the Ayuntamiento and confirms that the second analysis of the water today has deemed  it apt for bathing. The council will carry out further testing tomorrow, however, to be sure. They have also confirmed that the contamination is coming from a clandestine source - none of the hotels in the area are to blame - and they are currently investigating what the source is and sanctions will follow.
