Title: Overseas passports applications to be 35% cheaper from 7 April
Post by: Janet on Mon 17 Mar 2014, 14:54
Applications for renewals of British passports from abroad will be 35% cheaper from next month. James Brokenshire, Immigration and Security Minister, has announced that from 7 April fee for British citizens applying for a UK passport from overseas will be reduced by £45 for adults and £28.50 for children.

This will mean the fees for new passports will be £83.00 for a 32-page adult passport, £53.00 for a 32-page child passport, and £91.00 for a 48-page passport, whether for adult or children. The reduction in price is the result of efficiency savings that have been made over the last three years by bringing back the processing and issuing of overseas passports to the UK.

For future reference, there are links on my Links & Laws page to apply for a new or replacement passport from overseas, but the direct link is HERE. You need to apply and pay online and send your supporting documents direct to the UK. The turnaround time is four to six weeks, and applications are accepted up to nine months before the expiry of your current passport. See my website for live links: JA (http://www.janetanscombe.com/news/overseas-passports-applications-to-be-35-cheaper-from-7-april.html)

Does that include postage Janet? The link doesn't seem to work and the site I looked at wasn't to clear. Uk passports always have been a bit of a rip off. I think the last time the wife got a Spanish one it was about €25. I don't know why we can't pay the same as the UK. I know the postage is a bit diffrent but not that much. I suspect that this 'U' turn on price has something to do with the EU and little to do with the generosity of the UK government. Still good news all the same :)

No, P, the link is just to the application process anyway (should work ... :undecided: )

The actual information link from the FCO is HERE (https://www.gov.uk/government/world-location-news/passport-fees-for-british-nationals-overseas-reduced-by-35). I'm afraid that it specifically says "Overseas customers will also continue to pay a courier charge in addition to the passport fee."

You guys are lucky.  We renewed in 2011.  By the time we need to do it again the price will have gone up.

I had to do mine a few years ago. I was one of those that it was almost as cheap to fly back to do it as it was to have it done here. So thats what I did. :)
