Bullfighting back on the agenda

This report in El País and this in the BBC are about the move to give bullfighting a special cultural status which could overturn regional bans.

This makes me physically sick. Of course it has nothing to do with ethics, just jobs and votes. If a country wants to consider the ritual torture of an animal as part of their culture, then they can't have much tradition to be proud of.

PP in government ..... what else but to overturn anything humane that ZP introduced.

The turtle said that people like this have "turds for brains" ..... just substitute "are" ... :scowl:

Not quite bullfighting, but the regional government of Castile y León has outlawed bull spearing. This will put and end to local festivals of killing bulls that way. It's a move in the right direction.

A young torero was killed in Teruel (north east Spain) on Saturday live on TV while "fighting" a bull, and a member of the public was killed after being gored in a Pamplona as he took part in a bull run.

The torero, Victor Barrio, is the first Spanish bullfighter to die in a ring since the turn of the century. Several have been extremely seriously injured of course ...

On the other hand, thousands of bulls have died ...

Sympathy ... sort of just north of nil, really ...

No sympathy from me.  Anybody who tortures animals for sport deserves it.

It's certainly time they stopped hiding behind "tradition" and "culture" to get their kicks.......If that was a reasonable excuse we'd still have people offering up human sacrifices..

All well and good in the times before football and Sky Movies, but nowadays there are plenty of civilised pursuits without the need for blood sports......... :021:

I can't stand football, don't have Sky movies and still don't need to watch bull fighting  :D
