I'm thinking of taking myself off for a short holiday in Gran Canaria this year. Any suggestions where to stay?  I don't know anywhere in GC but I'm looking for somewhere relaxing, with a little bit of class, nice restaurants and cocktail bars and a nice beach but also with the transport links to go exploring a little bit. Any recommendations?

The first ever holiday i had abroad was in Gran Canaria. San Augustin. The area was a little on the quiet side. It rained for a full week. Massive downpours.

A few years back I stayed at the BlueBay Beach Club and it was marvellous.

Except:

1) It's not really within walking distance of a lot, though we did have a good Chinese about 10 minutes walk away.

2)  There's an airport next door.  They do flying lessons. I loved watching them do take offs and landings umpteen times a day and it did not prevent me from having naps, but if that doesn't appeal, don't go anywhere near.

For those who missed it, here I am on the ferry to GC with a falcon I met en route:

Nova, I don't like it as much as home but it is worth a trip.

We go to Las Palmas and stay in the Reina Isabel hotel on Las Canters beach, handy for everything. I like Las Palmas, having arrived there from Trinidad in 1962, hey I had hair then!!   :D
