Threading this micro-thin piece of fibre into the correct position in the box was like threading a really tiny needle.

Trust me, splicing fibre is a lot easier these days, the bloody machine does >90% of it for you  :D

I'm glad you're happy with the speed though :)

Only trouble is I now have to link up my wifi extender again, which is a pain in the ass because it involves me having to press a button on the router then immediately press a button on the extender, but the nearest point I can plug in the extender is about 10ft away.  Ah well, I've done it before, I'm sure I can do it again...  First world problems and all that

Think you actually get about 60 seconds with WPS. Another little thing, is that your extender may not be able to achieve your new speeds. :017:

You're right Del, I can only get the wifi extender to connect to the slow network, not the fast one.  (My new fibre router has two wifi networks, a standard (slow) and a plus (the fast one).)  The technicians said the slow one should still be able to achieve speeds of 20Mb or so, which is probably enough for the bedroom, but I want the fast one in the bedroom too  :undecided:  I was hoping the new router might have a better range so I wouldn't need the extender but no joy, my devices in the bedroom can't even find the plus network.

Most new routers are dual frequency 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, I suspect your extender is only 2.4. I don't understand the two different speeds though, seems a bit pointless. I'm not sure on this but I believe 5Ghz does not travel through walls so well.
I fear you may well have to think along the "Powerline" solution.

Aha, or I might just need to upgrade my extender to one that can handle the higher frequency?  This one looks like it could do it, for example :link:.  It's a bit pricey but I can shop around  :great:

:thanx:

Edit:  Here's another :link:

I've got the Netgear one, it works fine but, it insists on renaming the amplified part of the wifi network with,  ".EXT", it can and does cause some devices a bit of a headache connecting, other makes I am told don't do this.

In my case the 5Ghz signal is much weaker than the 2.4. but with my router the speed is the same, so no problem.

Techcnically 5Ghz has a shorter range, and more prone to physical barriers, so it is not certain your problem will be cured. Hence, why I suggested Powerline adaptors.

Should have added. Your devices may also not be capable of connecting to 5Ghz

and the signal to the bedroom could be fine

No, my iPhone is connected to the 5Ghz wifi perfectly in the living room.  Then I walk into the bedroom and it loses the signal and switches to 4G.  I can't even find the Plus network in the wifi list from the bedroom!  But take two steps into the living room and my phone automatically connects to the wifi again.

I know what your installer said about 20Mbs, but have you tried a speedtest on that frequency, yes 2.4Ghz is slower but nowhere near that slow (unless movistar do something to the router) I would think 100/150Mbs would not be a problem.

Nova

No I haven't.  I'll try it and let you know  :tiphat:
