No more “abortion on demand” under new law

Yes, Perikles thinks along similar lines ... we've just been talking and I said that my sympathy was somewhat limited and my outrage somewhat mollified because EVERYFUCKINGBODY KNEW what the PP were like, and that a country that votes in a pile of corrupt, hypocritical, bigoted, church-handinpocketed, fascist Francoists KNEW WHAT THEY WOULD GET ...

Perikles doesn't think anyone realized.

If he's right, then I just don't care anyway.

I don't think people are politically engaged enough to work out the consequences of getting rid of one set of politicians just because you don't like them. The "it can't be worse" argument never applies, and nobody really could have anticipated this level of insanity.

but they COULD, that's the point! They'd had them before. Whose law was it that Zapatero's socialists overturned? Whose abortion law, itself so extreme, has this new one become even more extreme than? The PP's ...

Who lied to the people? Who told them the Atocha bombs were ETA? The people knew enough then to work out it was their PP leaders lying through their teeth because they couldn't admit it was an Al Qaeda attack ... because that would mean admitting their policy to support fucking Bush had had terrorism as a consequence ... and no-one fucking wanted Spanish involvement in Iraq ...

They were fucking well enough aware then. HOW could they not be this time, when Gallardon was virtually walking around before the election in a saint playsuit trying to get people to guess how many fucking years he was going to turn the clock back ... and joshing everyone that they'd have to pay to go to court ...

DID THEY THINK HE WAS FUCKING JOKING?????

I think Penkles is right.

Spanish people generally don't have any sense of political participation; they really do feel that it is out of their range of influence. There is no choice, you vote for a closed list system of career politicians who are unaccountable. And these politicians in turn have no sense of what life is like outside of their clique.
You can no more expect them to legislate on the lives of ordinary people than you can expect professional footballers to have valid political opinions.

It is a sad state of affairs because even the new laws making it illegal to demonstrate in the streets (link)  are virtually irrelevant because it is a reaction against something that was insignificantly small anyway.

How do we explain this national apathy?

Is it simply laziness?  Like "I'll make the effort to traipse out and vote in our wonderful "democracy" every once in a while, then you lot just get on with it and leave me alone"

Or is it a historical conditioning or some sort of genetic attitude cleansing?
Any family with any propensity towards action or protest either would have been snuffed out two generations ago or relocated. And during the long and prosperous Franco dictatorship the Spaniard learned submission and acceptance of his lot.
He may be very pleased when, as a reward for his patience, he is given "democracy", but don't expect him to criticise it.

I suspect a combination of both.

yes, agreed ... so then accept you can't have a bloody abortion!

edit: that of course is frustration talking ...  :banghead:

Perhaps, just perhaps.... this anti-abortion thing could work - or rather the only way in which it could work...... is if it were backed up with education and a return to old-fashioned morals.  There is already a provision in the law for rape, so theoretically there is only carelessness left to account for.  My mum always said the best contraceptive is a paracetamol, held between the knees.  Is that what these religious extremists want to achieve?  :undecided:
If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know amazing.

Janet

yes, it is, with only men having sexual liberty, and women having no rights other than to lie back and take it. How far from that to genital mutilation? oh I mean "female circumcision" ... point being to make bloody sure that women are physically incapable of sexual enjoyment ...

This is what happens with monotheistic religions. I'm boiling over all this, can you tell?

Nova

No, your disagreement was very subtle

Perikles

Encouraging signs of dissention in the PP now, with one heavyweight speaking out here in El País.

What he says is interesting and clear:

Quote"Nadie puede negar a nadie su derecho a ser madre. Ni tampoco nadie puede obligar a nadie a serlo"

Sounds like a good bloke, with

QuoteNecesitamos una ley del aborto que conecte con la sociedad, que sea reflejo de la España actual, la que inicia 2014.

and

Quote"Creo sinceramente que la ideología no tiene que introducirse en asuntos de Estado

Now that is an interesting statement - in other words, just fuck off with that Catholic crap

Has anyone here every tried to have a political discussion with a PP supporter? I would advise against it their all f--king morons with temper issues. Three examples.
We were with the usual crowd in Santa Cruz having a coffee. Up walks the son in law of one of the group. He happens to be a Consultant Pathologist at Candelaria Hospital. On the table was 'ElDia' with the headlines about the PP corruption scandal. He picks it up curls his lips and throws it on the floor! He then proceeds to rant (this dick head was bouncing to see was to believe) that the PP party was as pure as wind driven snow and how dare any one on the table read such rubbish! No one said a word! It was like a machine gun was being directed at us all. He then walked off and the chit chat carried on as if nothing had happened.

My eldest brother in law one of the top managers in UNELCO before he took early retirement and a very nice lump sum and pension. Family BBQ our house and about 40 guests. Someone mentioned the PP party in a derogatory way the reaction of my dick head of a brother in law was to verbally abuse the person at the top of his voice who had dared to utter the criticism for about 15 min then he lectured every one on the merits of the PP party. In my fucking house!!!
He brought the BBQ to a stand still and three couples left there and then and we shut up hours ahead of what would have been the normal time we Finnish. Did he apologize......not a chance arragent bastard!

A friend of ours who was a tanker captain before retiring to be a harbor pilot in Santa Cruz. A similar story to the last one. BQ someone mentioned the PP party and the balloon went up big style. One of his sons walked out of the house and left his wife and child there! One POSE supporter almost came to blows a couple of women were in tears. The only good thing was it wasn't our house!

I was just stood in amazement for all of the stories. I couldn't believe the strength of feeling the pure anger and lack of any debate. Reason was not on the menu or even in their vocabulary

So we see a patten Men, professional, well off, arrogant. The thing is they say fuck all, they understand fuck all, they know fuck all except the PP party is great and the saviour of Spain.
