Two deaths in north Tenerife

It was a sad day in north Tenerife yesterday. First, a 45-year-old man died after his tractor overturned while he was working his finca in the Las Llanadas agricultural area of Los Realejos. Emergency services say that they were called out around 5pm with reports that the man was trapped in the vehicle, but sadly medical personnel who attended the incident could do nothing but confirm his death at the scene from the serious injuries he had suffered. 

Within minutes, emergency services were dealing with a call about an 82-year-old German holidaymaker who died after drowning in the pool of the Puerto de la Cruz hotel in which he was staying. Emergency services say that they were called out to the hotel in Calle Aceviño shortly after 5pm with reports that the man had been pulled out of the pool and that attempts were being made to resuscitate him. These efforts were continued by medical personnel attending the incident but sadly, all efforts failed and he was declared dead at the scene.

I don't know the circumstances, but most tractor deaths these days are with tractors without rollbars, which I believe are required under EU safety regulations. I know that in Wales, no matter how remote you were, you couldn't drive such a tractor like that for more than five minutes before some suit from the Min of Ag would turn up and fine you some massive amount. The min of Ag in the UK is a fascist state and upholds EU regulations with a fanaticism difficult to understand. Here, everybody just ignores EU regs and carries on. I've seen these tractors here working on really dangerous terrain without rollbars and nobody seems to bother.

We have good friends in  Scotland who own farm tractors and are happy to allow their precious wee grandson to spend hours with farm hand on
his beloved tractors as they are totally happy that all safety devices are in place

In the UK, it's law, I believe, for tractors to have rollbars. They're essential ... and no-one here has them despite the rules being EU regulations!
