Seven dead and one in critical condition after tragic patera arrives at Lanzarote

Seven dead and one in critical condition is the sad tally to one patera's attempt to enter the Canaries. The large launch was spotted shortly before noon today on the Costa Teguise in Lanzarote, and five of the dead were found inside it; a sixth was found dead in the water and the seventh died despite attempts to resuscitate him when he was pulled ashore. The Guardia Civil, Salvamento Marítimo and the emergency services control room were involved in the recovery of the craft and its 27 occupants, all of them north African adult men. Four others of the number are in hospital, one in critical condition.

That is exactly how i feel, but i could only express those views on here without fear of ridicule from other posters, because elsewhere i would be seen as a racist

I don't see how it can be construed as "racist" by any stretch of the imagination. Some will see it differently, of course, and see it as tragic, and I myself see these people as products of their circumstances, but usually wonder what they did with their womenfolk ...

If they're escaping terror or a situation where they feared for their life, I think it's inexcusable that they leave their women behind, and if they are not in fear, then they're purely economic migrants ... so do it legally or not at all! Either way, I think they shouldn't be on a boat alone with other men coming to a new world.

But I also think that racism would only come into play if the difference in viewpoints were purely because of their colour, but it is not, I don't believe, and so it's a difference in perspective, or viewpoint, or opinion, but not "racism"!

For me, however, bottom line is they're human beings who were chasing a better life ... whether for themselves or for themselves plus others, whether they were black, brown, pink or yellow is immaterial to me ... and they were someone's sons, husbands, fathers ...

I do think it's tragic. But I think it's even more tragic that they feel the need to risk (and in this case give) their lives for betterment when it's seemingly impossible to make their lives decent "at home". And that's obviously the better solution!

Totally agree @Janet, but my viewpoint is that they are not looking to escape terrorism but are probably economic migrants, so why should they go and screw someone else's economy up just for monetary gain? but yes you are also correct about  the fact that it has nothing to do with color, because i despise some of the eastern europeans coming to britain on the back of lorries just to claim benefits

The very last thing Europe is in short supply of is uneducated unskilled unemployable men who don't speak the language, do not hold the same values that we do and would who would throw their own grandmother overboard for a crack at the promised land.  Fuck off back home boys.  Man up.  Take care of your families and your countries.

The vast majority of the boats on the news that capsize on the way to the promised land are full of young adult males.  Hardly every do you see women and children.  One rare occasion was that Syrian toddler that washed up on a Turkish beach.
