The main Romeria season is during the summer (see the main post HERE), but even this early in the year it's possible to find some traditional festivities, and this Thursday 11 January sees the first of 2018. Arona's Fiestas Patronales y Romería in honour of San Antonio Abad take place in the town of Arona itself and last until Tuesday 16 January but the main day with the parade is on Sunday 14th.

Events for the Sunday romería start at 10.30am with a Mass sung by Parranda Chasnera in the church of San Antonio Abad. At 12.30pm the traditional romeria will parade through the town with the traditional carriages drawn by Canarian oxen and food and drink handed out to all. There will be live music from a range of folk groups, who will be blessed, along with all the animals, at the end of their romería. From 4pm, the evening party starts with live music from Wamampy and Aparranda2.

Transport is laid on from Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas so everyone is able and indeed welcome to attend. The buses leave from Avda Juan Carlos 1 opposite the Auditorio Infanta Leonor and from Avda Noelia Afonso Cabrera opposite the Hotel Central Zenter at 10am, 11am, and 12 noon; return will be at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm from the centre of Arona.
