Spain's supreme court has ruled it illegal to fine motorists without stopping them

The ruling only applies to Madrid right now but it may only be a matter of time before the law is changed throughout Spain.  I'm not sure whether it's a good thing or not...

Care to expand?    I know that it's a good thing in terms of driver fairness and making the police actually do their jobs properly instead of just being Big Brother's bureaucratic arseholes, but I process a lot of postal fines for things like crossing solid lines, not indicating before turning,... petty things, but nonetheless symptoms of dangerous driving.  I'm sure I've also processed postal fines for not having a valid ITV, which is more serious.  I wonder whether these drivers would mostly just "get away with it" under the new ruling.  And I wonder where speeding fines stand when the infraction has been detected by cameras or radars or whatever.

Will it lead to drivers refusing to stop when gestured to pull over, and instead putting their boot down to avoid legitimate fines?

All I want to know is if I can get my speeding fine back?  I do hope that if this happens it is retroactive.

Everything you say would be true if you didn't live somewhere where the police are cocky, arrogant and incompetent.  - it's the "making the police do their jobs properly" bit.
